Becky S. Cummings - Martin

January 11, 1960 ~ October 1, 2015
Becky S. Cummings Martin, age 55 of New Hampton, IA passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family after a four year battle against Lou Gehrig’s disease “ALS.”
Becky Sue was born on January 11, 1960 in Charles City, IA to Ronald and Nona (Heinselman) Cummings. She attended Charles City High School and graduated from Hamilton Business College. Becky was united in marriage to Marty Martin in July of 1976. To this union two daughters were born, Shannon and Nicole. The couple later divorced. At the age of 19, Becky began her 33 year career as the secretary at New Hampton Middle School. Throughout those 33 years, Becky ran a tight ship and kept not only the staff but the students on their toes. If there was a question to be answered, Becky knew it with the many hats she wore. She also worked various other part-time jobs including Warren Grain Dryers and New Hampton Country Club. It was there where she met the love of her life, Dennis Knight. With Dennis by her side she learned how to play golf and became a New Orleans and Hawkeye football fan. When away from work, Becky or “Lucky Roy” as her teammates called her, was an avid pool shark. She also enjoyed gardening, growing house plants, reading, and crocheting. In March of 2012, Becky was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. She retired from the job she loved on November 1, 2012. After Becky lost her ability to speak she used her eye gaze computer to translate her thoughts to words. She always looked forward to the Wednesday and Friday visits with her friends. Her greatest wish was to remain in her home; with the help of her family and friends, Becky was granted that wish.
Left to cherish Becky’s memories: her best friend and soul mate, Dennis Knight of New Hampton; her daughters, Shannon (Corey) Lindeland of Nashua, IA and Nicole (Mike) Dreckman of New Hampton; her grandchildren, Blake and Sharice Lindeland; her mother, Nona Cummings of Charles City, IA; her sisters, Shelly Boggess of New Hampton, Cindy (Bob) Graham of Rockford, IA; Julie (Nate) Schwickerath of New Hampton; one brother, Jeff (Andrea) Cummings of Floyd, IA; one aunt, Carol (Ron) Boggess of Floyd; several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as numerous friends and supporters.
Preceding her in death was her father, Ronald Cummings; and her grandparents, Lester and Wanda Cummings and Verle and Edith Heinselman.
Becky was a shining example for all of us. May God help you face your loss and give you strength and support. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathy to Becky’s family. Becky and I did some crazy things growing up! There is one that I alway have to laugh at! In 1974, Becky was spending the night. Becky had very wild and crazy hair. When we woke up in the morning, my Siamese cat, Cesar, attacked her hair. She did not what was going on. It was so funny at the time. Rest in peace Becky and state away from Cesar he’s in heaven too!
