Carla Mae was born July 14, 1945, the daughter of Carl N. and Lenore M. (Gardner) Roths. She attended and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1963. After graduating, Carla moved to Rochester, MN where she worked in the Dietary Department at St. Mary’s Hospital. Carla met the love of her life, Larry Flattum in Caledonia, MN. The couple was married on November 19, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. They made their home in Readlyn, IA. However, they returned to New Hampton a short six years later where they raised their two children, Dori and Darin, and have lived since. After the children were grown, Carla became a daycare provider, taking care of families for twenty years. Carla and Larry are members of Holy Family Parish. Carla has always enjoyed cooking, baking, camping at the Mississippi River, and her tending to her flower gardens. She treasured her friendships, cared not only for young families in the community but for her aging parents and took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Larry Flattum of New Hampton; her daughter, Dori Siglin of Mason City; her son, Darin Flattum of Red Wing, MN; her grandchildren, Jake(Brooke), Will, Ben, Jack, Brenna and Lane; her siblings, Jean Ohm of Charles City, IA and Wayne Roths of Chesterton, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard Roths; brother-in-law, Laverne “Butch” Ohm; sister-in-law, Jean Roths and nephew, Dwayne Roths.
