Catherine “Katie” Schmit, age 76, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Holy Family Parish with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating the mass. Please join Katie’s family and friends for the service via Conway-Markham Funeral Home’s Facebook page for online attendance. Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton, IA. The family has requested that anyone attending the visitation and/or funeral mass be respectful of social distancing guidelines and mask requirements.
There will be a one hour visitation at the church prior to the funeral mass on Monday. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holy Family Parish, St. Croix Hospice or a charity of your choice.
Katie was welcomed in this world on September 28, 1943 by her parents, Lawrence and Marie (Papenheim) Elenz near Alta Vista, IA. She attended St. Mary’s School in North Washington. After completing her education, Katie worked as a cook, waitress and bartender before moving to Las Vegas, where she worked for casinos as a card dealer. She retired from the casino in 2000 and returned to New Hampton to be closer to family.
Katie is survived by her sisters, Rita Cummings of Evansdale, IA, Maggie Faber of Algona, IA and Tillie Havlik of Elma, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leo, Mike, John and Larry; and her sisters, Theresa, Rose, Alice, Mary Ann and Barbara.
