Charles "Chuck" Galligan, age 87 of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.l A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Chuck will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, IA with Father Brian Delleart and Msgr. Carl Schmitt concelebrating the mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Hampton. Military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion Post # 38 and the Alta Vista VFW Post #4069. Visitation will be from 9-11a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the church. Charles Eugene Galligan was born on August 12, 1929 to Joseph and Florence (Underwood) Galligan on the family farm in Lawler, IA. Chuck attended grade school, and was a 1947 graduate of Lawler High School. He then worked on the farm with his father until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1950. Chuck served on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. On May 2, 1953, Chuck was united in marriage to Janet Kamla at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Seattle, WA. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to Iowa. Chuck purchased Chuck’s Standard Station in New Hampton which he operated for four years. He then operated Standard Oil Tank Wagon until his retirement in 1991. He drove school bus for 14 years. He enjoyed gardening, wintering in Texas, golf, bowling and was a Cardinals fan. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed attending their sports activities. Chuck was a member of Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, Knights of Columbus, New Hampton American Legion, Alta Vista VFW Post #4069 and New Hampton Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Janet Galligan of New Hampton; his children, Wayne (Vickie Dowell) Galligan of Hurst, TX, Vinny (Jackie) Galligan of Gladwin, MI, Pat (Mitch) Felder of Carthage, NC, Kenny Galligan of Denver, IA, Kathy (Steve) Johnson of Allen, TX, Karen (Roger) Meirick of Alta Vista, IA, Dale (Dawn Ringham) of Mason City, IA; his brothers, Duane (Millie) Galligan and Jim (Doris) Galligan, both of New Hampton; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Jon Galligan and one sister-in-law, Celine Galligan.
