Charlotte C. Conway, age 101 of Elma, Iowa passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Colonial Manor in Elma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, Iowa with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating the mass. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Elma. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Tuesday, December18, 2018 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma. Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Elma, the Elma Public Library or the charity of your choice. Charlotte Carolyn Conway was born on April 12, 1917 to Charles and Mary (Hentges) Hilsman near North Washington, Iowa. She attended St. Mary’s School in North Washington. Charlotte was united in marriage to Robert Conway on November 7, 1938 at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington. The couple made their home in Elma where they raised their family and Charlotte has continued to live. She worked as a school lunch cook at Immaculate Conception School in Elma for 15 years and also helped out at the family furniture store in Elma. Charlotte enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, watching sports and wildlife and especially spending time with her family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma and the Rosary Society. Charlotte is survived by her children Ed (Ann) Conway of New Hampton, Iowa, Marilee (Roger) Nibaur of Elma and Cheryl DeVries of Charles City, Iowa;13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Janice Kobliska of Elma. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Hilsman; her husband Robert in 1999; sister Eleanor Gebel; brother Greg Hilsman; granddaughter Julie Conway; great grandchildren Ryan Kruse, Emileigh Nibaur and Kyle DeVries and Shane Wiltse; and son-in-law Larry DeVries.

  1. Charlotte was a great lady and she was always a lot of fun. Bob and Charlotte were always very active and a part of things in Elma. I remember both of them plus Charlie Hilsman well from years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this difficult time of family transition!
