Dale E. Meirick, age 88, of Alta Vista, IA passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab with his family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Alta Vista, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating the mass. MIlitary honors will be provided by Alta Vista VFW Post #4069. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary in Alta Vista. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with a 3:30 PM Rosary and a 7:00 PM Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Tuesday. Online condolences may left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family. Dale Edward was born on October 14, 1931, the son of Antone and Regina (Wegner) Meirick on the family farm in Alta Vista. He attended country school, starting at the young age of 4. He followed his older siblings and was allowed to stay as long as he behaved. Dale continued through to the 8th grade. After he completed his education he began his farming career. On September 5, 1953, Dale was united in marriage to Marjorie Boyle at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, IA. The couple made their home on the farm in Alta Vista. While Dale and Marjorie were on their honeymoon in Yellowstone, Dale received notice of being drafted into the US Army. 90 days after their marriage, Dale left for basic training. Dale returned to his bride and farming in 1954. The couple welcome nine children, Dorothy, Joe, Dennis, Donna, Ruth, Linda, Mary, Herb and Paula. He remained on the farm his whole life. Outside of farming, Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite fishing spot was Lake Pepin at Lake City, MN. In Dale’s later years, he enjoyed fishing on the farm pond. He was survived by his children, Dorothy (Leonard) Kobliska of Raymond, IA, Joe (Pat) Meirick of Alta Vista, IA, Dennis (Joan) Meirick of Elma, IA, Donna (Tom) Bodensteiner of Clear Lake, IA, Ruth (Pat) Riha of Cresco, IA, Linda (Mike) Wedemeier of Charles City, IA, Mary (Randy) Roethler of Elma, IA, Herb (Melissa) Meirick of Elma, IA and Paula (Steve) Breitbach of New Hampton, IA; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; special friend, Louise Conry of New Hampton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Marjorie; his grandson, Wyatt Meirick, the son of Herb and Melissa Meirick; his siblings, Bernard Meirick, Katherine Recker, Oletha Ball-Hahn, John Meirick, Marcella Ruhoff-Jacobson, Berneda Sherwood and Lyle Meirick.

Dale and his family were one of the first milking parlor operations in the neighborhood that i remember..it was amazing..Dale and Marge were such awesome people..they welcomed me into their home when i needed help..the whole family took me in because of their influence i had the utmost respect for them…Dale and Marge were the most kind hearted people I ever knew. I love the whole family because Dale and Marge showed so many people so much love and kindness. He will be greatly missed and always loved. Most respect Dale.

I envision a group of fishermen including my Dad, and Dale’s fishing buddies meeting him at Heaven’s gate with gear in tow for a fishing trip to Lake Pepin, Leech Lake and all their favorite fishing stops as in Heaven there is no pain, and every day is a great fishing day.
