Daniel Nick was born October 21, 1944, the son of Merle and Leona (Hoverman) Jacoby in Elma, IA. He attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Elma as a part of the Class of 1963. After completing his education, Danny went to work for John Deere in Waterloo for several years. On April 19, 1969, Danny was united in marriage to Donna Hayes in Waukegan, IL. The couple made the community their home, where they welcomed their daughter, Amy. Danny worked for Goodyear over a number of years before the family returned to Waterloo and welcomed their second daughter, Carrie. The couple later divorced. Eventually, Danny met his special friend, Mary Jo Jordan. Danny went to work as a custodian for the Waterloo Public School District, and retired in 2010. Though he retired from working full time, Danny kept himself busy working for Eclipse Dental as a delivery driver. Together, Danny and Mary Jo enjoyed escaping the Iowa winters with extended trips to Arizona. When home, Danny could be found enjoying his favorite Old Westerns and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed visiting with the morning coffee clutch and a card game or two on Friday afternoons. His family was his pride and joy and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Those left to honor Danny’s memories are his daughters, Amy (Todd) Stephenson of Cresco, IA and Carrie (David) Zweibohmer of Denver, IA; his grandchildren, Dustin Meirick, Holly Meirick, and Hayley Zweibohmer; special friend, Mary Jo Jordan; his siblings, Francis “Jake” (Myrna) Jacoby of Waterloo, IA, James (Shirley) Jacoby of Evansdale, IA, Sandy (Bob) Quinn of Glenville, MN and Mary Jean Cartney of Rochester, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathy (Don) Hackman; his brothers, Wayne and Richard Jacoby and a brother in infancy.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. He cherished your mom and dad so much and talked about them often and we found a picture of him in your dads garage in his coveralls. Thank you for the memory.

  2. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with all of Danny’s family. One of the last times we saw Danny was at the nursing home where Jake lives. Danny was feeding Jake as we visited. I will always have that picture of him in my memory – the kindness and caring he had for his brother – priceless. May he rest in peace and may God provide comfort and peace for all who loved him.

  3. With deepest sympathy to Mary Jo and the Jacoby family. Dan was a friend of mine since we started school at I.C. Spent lots of summers playing ball together and just messing around. He will be missed. So happy I have such great memories of Dan.

  4. You think you can come up with some good memories to share and then nothing in particular comes to mind. That was Dan to me. I do have plenty of memories working along side of him in my Dads garage. Some pretty good times. Glad to have known him. He was just one heck of a good guy who would do about anything for you. Rest in peace Danny.

  5. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  6. Our deepest sympathies to you Amy and Carrie and extended families. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. May your cherished memories be a comfort to you.

  7. I will surely miss watching and playing cards with Danny. Our warmest condolences to Mary Jo and all Danny’s family.

  8. Our condolences to Mary Jo and his family. We have so many good memories working with Danny as a co worker and friend. He had a heart of Gold and was always there to help with anything. We will miss him stopping by the house, getting together for breakfast and just catching up. Rest in peace dear friend❤Mike and Debbie Grover
