Don was born June 23, 1953, the son of Lester and Marlys (Schanfeld) Johnson.  He attended and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1971.  After completing his education, Don began working at Liddle’s Super Value.  In 1973, Don was united in marriage to Cheryl Eskilson.  Together they welcomed their three children, Trisha, Trevor, and Tony.  The couple later divorced.  He later met Pat Cox and the couple were united in marriage in 1991.  They made their home in Pleasant Hill, IA when Don was offered a position with a Specialty Foods Corporation.  They welcomed their son, Chance.  In 1997, the family returned to New Hampton where he continued his career in sales.  Together, Don and Pat purchased M&M Movies.  On July 5, 2004, the family’s life was forever changed when Don suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm causing a hemorrhagic stroke.  After this tragedy, the Johnson household was never the same.  As a family, they adjusted to their new lives and cherished every moment.  Don continued to enjoy time with his family and ensured there was never a dull moment.

Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, cheering for the Hawks, gardening/canning the spiciest tomato juice, and spending time with friends and family.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Pat Johnson of New Hampton, IA; his children; Chance (Allie) Johnson of Ankeny, IA; his stepson, Josh Cox of New Hampton, IA; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Wayne Johnson of New Hampton, IA; brothers-in-law, Frank Peters and Donnie Peters, both of New Hampton, IA; sisters-in-law, Helen (Tom) Dockendorf of New Hampton, IA and Cindy Peters of New Hampton, IA and several nieces and nephews.
