Donald L. Hereid, age 60, of New Hampton, IA died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Donald Lynn Hereid was born April 28, 1951 to Oliver and Hazel (Attleson) Hereid in New Hampton, IA. He was a 1969 graduate of New Hampton High School. Don later attended Mankato State College in Mankato, MN. After his education Don worked at Hillendale Egg Plant, Holschlag Construction, and as a mechanic at Merlyn's Home and Recreation for almost 30 years. He finished his career with Marv and Zip's Repair. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors, as well as, attending high school athletic events. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Chickasaw County Pheasants Forever Chapter. Don is survived by his mother, Hazel Hereid of New Hampton; his siblings, Jane (Dennis) Whalen of Indianola, IA, Mark Hereid of St. Louis, MO and Jan Hereid of Indianola; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy(Nicci)Whalen, Erin (A.J.) Freeberg, both of Indianola, Kelly Hereid of Austin, TX, and Michael Hereid of Chicago, IL and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Oliver in 1991 and his sister-in-law, Jenny in 2006. Memorials: Memorials preferred to Chickasaw County Pheasants Forever, and Carnegie Cultural Center. Cemetery: Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery. Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Service: Memorial services will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Reverend Kevin Frey officiating.

    I am very sorry for your loss. I know that Don fought and struggled with his bouts of cancer surrounded by all of your love and support. His body finally had enough suffering but, as Jan said, his spirit is at peace. His passing leaves a big hole in your close family that can only be filled with your memories and stories.
