Ervin Joseph Sabelka, age 96, of New Hampton, Iowa died on Monday, December 17, 2012 (on his birthday) at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in New Hampton, Iowa. Ervin J. Sabelka was born December 17, 1916 in rural Chickasaw County son of Joseph and Mary (Adank) Sabelka. He married Wilma Riehle on January 22, 1940 at. St. Wencelaus Church in Spillville, Iowa. He attended Chickasaw County Schools and farmed near Reilly Ridge before retiring to New Hampton in 1988. He and Wilma liked to travel by bus, he was an avid gardner, liked to fish and was a Funks G seed corn salesman. Ervin entered New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in March 2004. Ervin is survived by his wife Wilma of 72 years; one son Joe (MaryJo) Sabelka of Lawler, Iowa; three daughters Leona (Florian) Steinlage of West Union, Iowa; Linda (Bob) Buckridge of Waterloo, Iowa and Laure (Bob) Rausch of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; one daughter-in-law Norma Sabelka of Lawler, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and one sister Ethel Maracheck of Cresco, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Sabelka; one son Bill Sabelka; two great granddaughters Haley and Hana Buchheit; one brother Jerome Sabelka; four sisters Eileen Cooney; Florence Shileny; Angeline Riehle and Margaret Balk. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at New Hampton, Iowa with Paul Sabelka, Billy Buckridge, Loran Steinlage, Gary Steinlage, Luigi Rausch and Ron Sabelka serving as casket bearers. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm at Friday, December 21, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, Iowa with a scriptural wake service at 6:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home the day of the service. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Holy Family Parish – St. Mary’s Center in New Hampton, Iowa.
