Franes A. Dempsey, age 99 of Elma, IA passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Mitchell County Health Care in Osage, IA. Frances Antonette Dempsey was born on January 15, 1917 to Anton and Maryanne Royek in Chicago, IL. Her family moved to Mitchell County when she was just a child. Frances attended and graduated from New Haven, IA. In 1936, Frances was united in marriage to Ronald Dempsey at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven. The couple made their home in Riceville, IA. Frances worked for 35 years at the Riceville Community Schools as a cook in the school’s lunch program. Her family was the center of her life and she especially enjoyed the family gathering for her birthdays and picnics with her husband and family at Lake Hendricks in Riceville. Frances was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. Frances is survived by her children, John (Janice) Dempsey of Osage, IA and Mary (John) Worple of Elma. She was the grandmother to 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren. Frances is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; two sisters; seven brothers; two granddaughters and two grandsons.
