Geraldine A. Johnson, age 81, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Northcrest Care Center in Waterloo, IA. Geraldine Agnes Johnson was born March 1, 1933 near Saude, IA to Edwin and Agnes (Marik) Thompson. She had three brothers and three sisters. She attended country school through the eighth grade near Lourdes, IA and high school at New Hampton. She had many jobs in her lifetime. Waitress, cook; while living in Rice Lake, WI at a De Laval dealer and Cray Research. Upon returning to New Hampton in 1991 she worked at Sara Lee, at a nursing home, Casey’s General Store and most recently she volunteered at the Treasure Chest. Geraldine was united in marriage to Allen R. Knutson on February 14, 1953 to which two sons were born, Michael and Mark. The couple later divorced. She later married Ronald K. Johnson in 1969. Geraldine enjoyed camping and fishing, crafts, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, card making, playing cards and doing puzzles. Country music was her favorite music and she loved to dance. Geraldine is survived by her sons, Michael (Heeya) Knutson of Colorado Springs, CO and Mark (Brenda) Knutson of Waterloo, IA; two step, Jacque (Joe) Bush of Oelwein, IA and Michael (Mary Louise) Johnson, Papton, MA; her five grandchildren, two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; two sisters, Genny Sweitzer of New Hampton, IA and Grace (Arnold) Deetz of Charles City, IA; one brother, Garland (Diane) Thompson of Charles City, IA; three sisters-in-law, Rita Thompson of Riceville, IA, Charlene Grattan of Cedar Falls, IA and Bonnie Johnson of Waterloo, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ronald; her two brothers, Raymond and James Thompson; one sister, Gladys Deetz, sister-in-laws, Alice Thompson and Glenyce Wilson; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Johnson, Rolla Wilson, Fred Grattan, Vern Deetz, Arnold Deetz and Dick Sweitzer.

  5. Thoughts and prayers to all of Gerry’s family. What great memories we have of Ron and Gerry! We couldn’t have asked for better neighbors and friends. They became like family to us over the years. We will and do miss them very much. Our love to you all.

  7. We got to know Gerry a few years ago on a bus trip to Cape Cod and shared many new experiences together. While visiting one evening, we discovered our families from Jerico had been good friends and used to play cards together; had some nice conversations about that “connection”. I also assisted her quite often when she came to the bank. She was a real nice person. Our sympathy for you loss.
