John R. Kottke, age 78, of Fredericksburg, IA, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. John Richard Kottke was born on March 7, 1933 to Frederick and Edna (Zieske) Kottke in New Hampton. He attended Kottke Rural School-District #1 near his family’s farm and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1951. John farmed the family farm where he has farmed all of his life. He also was employed as a security guard at Sara Lee in New Hampton for 21 years. On January 1, 1956, John was united in marriage to Jeanette Emkes at Fredericksburg Peace Church. To this union two children were born, Jay and Jan. John enjoyed traveling across the Unites States, restoring tractors in his retirement and gospel music. He was a member of Harvest Church, as John had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior. He was a charter member of the Fredericksburg Pioneer Power Club, and was also a charter member of the Chickasaw County School Preservation Foundation. John is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette of Fredericksburg; his children, Jay (Robin) Kottke of Phoenix, AZ and Jan Kottke of San Bernardino, CA; their grandchildren, Rebecca and Rachael Kottke, both of Eagan, MN; his brothers, James (Helen) Kottke of Fredericksburg, Charles (Pam) Kottke of Fredericksburg and Eugene (Judy) Kottke of Sumner, IA; his sisters, Virginia (Dave) Cutsforth of Waterloo and Agnes (Clarence) Moore of Hanson, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herman(LaVonne) Emkes of Denver, IA, Fred (Susie) Emkes of Cedar Falls, IA and George (Molly) Emkes of Albuquerque, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Edna Kottke. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to Harvest Church and Fredericksburg Pioneer Power Club. Cemetery: Burial will follow the lunch in Rose Hill Cemetery at Fredericksburg. Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm Friday, June 24, 2011 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, IA. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Service: Funeral services will be held 10:30am on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Harvest Church in New Hampton with Pastor Rod Ankrom officiating.

  8. We have so many great memories of times shared at First Baptist Church/Harvest Church! Dick enjoyed serving with John on many boards and commities over the years. You both were hard workers and faithful members of FBC. Jeanette you were so gracious to make your famous Happy Birthday Jesus cake (with its explanation of all the different ingredients) for Olympic Club one year. So many memories we could list.
