Joseph Clem was born February 10, 1929 to Clem and Ida (Willenborg) Recker in New Hampton, IA. He attended St. William’s Catholic School in Alta Vista. After completing his education, Joe began his lifelong career in farming with his father. At the age of 23, Joe enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1954. Joe returned home, rejoining his father on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Margaret Gansen on November 16, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, IA. The couple made their home a short distance from the Recker Family Farm where they welcomed their five children; Steve, Gary, Sharon, Shirley, and Beverly. He later retired from farming, passing on the Recker farm to his son, Gary. After his retirement, Joe enjoyed watching football, and trying his luck at the casino from time to time. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and the time he spent with them. He and Margaret were members of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista. Joe was an active member of the Alta Vista VFW Paul Johann Post #4069.
