Lawrence “Larry” Roethler, age 75, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, IA. Larry Roethler was born on February 23, 1941 to Joseph and Gertrude (Douglas) Roethler in New Hampton, IA. He attended country school and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1959 where he was active in wrestling, football and track. He also participated in musicals and plays along with his studies. He went to work on the railroad before getting a job with Supersweet Feeds. During this time he married his childhood sweetheart Judy Dowd who later passed away. He enlisted in the US Army during Vietnam from 1961-1967. He returned to New Hampton and continued work at Supersweet Feeds. He then went to work for John Deere Waterloo tractor works and was a member of UAW Local 838. He retired in 2007. Larry married the love of his life Linda Ohm on March 21, 1975 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. The couple made their home in New Hampton until 1984 when they moved to Cedar Falls where they lived for 26 years. In 2010 Linda and Larry moved back to New Hampton. Larry enjoyed watching sports and attending his children’s sporting events. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Larry is survived by his children Melanie (Lee) Martin of San Diego, CA, Linden (Laurie) Roethler Sioux City, IA, Laurie Roethler of New Hampton, and Jolene (Mark) Rogers of Shelton, CT; one granddaughter Autumn (Casey) Cooke of Moville, IA and one great granddaughter Lilly Ann Cooke. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Gertrude Roethler; his first wife Judy Dowd and second wife Linda Ohm.

  4. Larry will be missed by the staff of Mercy Hospital, he always had a smile and a hello no matter how he felt. I personally looked forward to seeing him everytime he came. He will be missed Kris Shatek
