Leroy A. Tank, age 65 of New Hampton, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home in New Hampton. LeRoy Arthur Tank was born on September 9, 1948 to Harold and Mabel (Lewig) Tank in New Hampton, IA. He was raised in Lawler until the sixth grade when his family moved to New Hampton. LeRoy was a 1966 graduate of New Hampton High School. Upon graduating, LeRoy began his career in the masonry business working for Tank and Sons Masonry. In 1968, LeRoy was drafted into the United States Army and later received his honorable discharge. On August 23, 1969, LeRoy was united in marriage to Sandra K. Zmoos, of Waucoma, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. To this union four children were born; Cindy, Jenny, Krisy and Jason. Soon after their marriage, LeRoy began Tank Brothers Masonry with his brother, Alan. Later, he started Tank Masonry. LeRoy always took great pride in his family. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren for rides in the golf cart. LeRoy’s hobbies included fishing, working in his shop, attending auctions and collecting antiques. He also restored vintage automobiles and tractors. He loved the Arts and enjoyed creating music, ceramics, drawing and architecture. LeRoy had a love for animals, always supporting humane societies. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Iowa Barn Foundation. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Sandy of New Hampton; daughters, Cindy (Kevin Murphy) Tank-Murphy of Naperville, IL, Jenny (Paul Freeborn) Tank of Naperville, IL, Krisy (Joel Godfryt) Tank-Godfryt of Sahaurita, AZ; son, Jason Tank of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Avery, Addison, Paxton, Lydia and Brayden; sister, Lois Hackman of Waterloo, IA; brothers, Wendell (LaVonne) Tank and Alan (Karen) Tank both of New Hampton, IA; sisters-in-law, Lurlean Tank and Jean Tank, both of New Hampton; brother-in-law Clarence Haupt, Jr. of Sumner, IA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; LaVerne Tank, Helen Haupt, Arnold Tank, Ruth Tank and Walter Tank.

  12. Very sorry to hear about Leroy. I lived two houses to the east of Leroy. One year just before Halloween I came home from work to find 3 pumpkins sitting on my picnic table. I knew they came from Leroy, so my daughter and I carved them and we took one back over to his house. He wasn’t home when we took it over so we hope he enjoyed it. He will be missed as neighbor.
