Marie 'Tuts' Heying passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012 with her family by her side, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, IA. Marie Elizabeth (Tuts) Heying was born to Bernard and Cecilia (Hess) Deutsch on January 25, 1925 at rural North Washington. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church and received her education at St. Mary’s Parochial School in North Washington, Iowa. On October 9, 1946 she and Andrew (Dick) Heying were married by Rev. Louis Gereleman at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington. The couple moved to the Jerico, Iowa area where they farmed and lived happily until 1993 when they retired and moved to Alta Vista. Marie was a homemaker and also loved to be in the great outdoors with her husband. Her hobbies included writing poetry, sewing, and playing cards with their friends. Gardening and flowers were also favorite interest. An avid photographer, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and meeting new people and finding out their way of life. She had a great sense of humor and one of her favorite expressions was “Think Positive”. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Rosary Society. She served for many years on the Howard County Election Board and various other committees in church and community. Marie is survived by sisters-in-law: Marie Deutsch of New Hampton, Evelyn Deutsch of New Hampton, Gert Freidhof of Elma, Alice (Ray) Freidhof of Waterloo, Evelyn Deutsch of Abeseon, New Jersey, and brother-in-law Mike (Arlene) Heying of Alta Vista; also many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Cecilia Deutsch, husband Andrew “Dick” Heying on January 27, 2003, one sister, Sister Mary Cecily O.S.F., Dubuque; brothers, Maurice, Victor, Carl, Henry, and Francis; in-laws, Elaine, Florence, Matt and Agnes Cerwinske, Ray and Eleanor Webb, Linus and Rita Heying, Norbert Heying, and Louis Heying. Cemetery: Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Howard County and Chickasaw County Food Shelves. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00pm, Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, Iowa with a rosary at 4:00pm and scriptural wake service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes.
