Raymond Eugene Shever

Raymond E. Shever, age 47, of Elma, IA, died on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his home. Raymond “Ray” Eugene Shever was born on July 29, 1964 to Raymond and Arlene (Rohrbaugh) Shever in San Pedro, CA. In 1977, he moved with his family to Clive, IA where he graduated from West Des Moines Valley High School in 1983. Ray then enlisted in the United States Navy and received his honorable discharge in 1987. Ray worked in construction before purchasing Cresco Lanes Bowling Alley in Cresco and operated it until 1997. He was then employed by Featherlite in Cresco as a welder until his illness prevented him from working. Ray was united in marriage to Christie Pleggenkuhle on July 1, 1995 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Ray enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, hunting, watching races, attending the “Light Up the Bluffs” weekend in Bluffton, IA, camping and he was an avid sports fan. He was inducted into the Cresco Bowling Hall of Fame this past spring. Ray is survived by his parents, Raymond and Arlene of Hampton, IA; his loving wife, Christie of Elma; his children, Colter (Kari) Sanders of Davenport, IA, Kayla (Matt Lansing) Sanders of Calmar, IA and Catlin Sanders of Cresco; his grandchildren, Kamryn Sanders and Devin Lansing; three brothers, Richard Shever of Bellflower, CA, Roger Shever of Pella, IA and Roland (Kimberly) Shever of Knoxville, IA; six nieces and nephews; one great-nephew.
Cemetery:
A private burial will be at a later date.
at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma.

Chris, I just saw on the Conway website that Ray passed away at home. I am so glad I was able to visit with him a couple weeks ago at Fareway. We all had a lot of good times at the bowling alley in Cresco years ago. He will be missed by so many people.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your brother Raymond. Although I only had the chance to meet him a few times, you always spoke so well of him and his family that we knew you were close and knew how proud you were of them. Ray was an awesome person and a great friend. I’ll never forget hanging out with him. I loved when he would come down and we would go hunting and fishing togather. Always good for a laugh. Ray was someone that genuinely enjoyed life to the fullest.
