Visitation for the family will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Harvest Church in New Hampton. Richard D. Walter, age 82, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Conroe Regional Hospital in Conroe, TX. Richard Dwane Walter was born on April 10, 1932 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Clovie and Alta (Elliott) Walter. He served our country from 1952-54 during the Korean War with the 61st Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Cavalry Division of the Army. He worked as a machinist with numerous companies for many years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start R & D Machine Tool with Dale Nelson of Fredericksburg, IA. In 1990, He moved to Willis, TX to build spec homes on Lake Conroe. Upon returning to New Hampton, Iowa, Richard started Ameritec Machining. He was active in the directions and decisions of the company at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Joyce Simmons on October 23, 1971 at the Church of Christ of Cedarloo in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Richard enjoyed travel and visiting with family. He was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to tour the monuments this past fall. He was very patriotic and enjoyed keeping current with political events and social concerns. Richard is survived by his wife Joyce of New Hampton; children Deb Walter of Cedar Falls, IA, and Jason (Kimberly) Walter of New Hampton, IA; sister Catherine (Walter) Dabney of Waterloo, IA, step-brother John (Shirley) Simmons of Evansdale, IA, step-brother Ron (Florence) Simmons of Ottumwa, IA, step-brother Jim (Lynn) Simmons of Palmdale, CA, brother-in-law Larry (Donna) Simmons of Murrieta, CA, sister-in-law Janice (Glen) Calhoon of Cheyenne, WY, sister-in-law Linda Shepard of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren Neal of Miami, FL, Nathan (Cheryl) of Waterloo, IA, Autumn of Denton, TX, Caleb of Cedar Falls, IA, Kayla, Philip, and Faith of New Hampton, IA; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Imogene Snook, Violet Pherigo, and Leetha Rupe, brothers Charles, James, and Jack, step-brothers Ray, Burle, Sam, Joe, Bob, Roger Simmons, as well as several other step-brothers and step-sisters, brother-in-law Jack Shepard.
