Scott J. Grober, age 61, of Cresco, IA passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at his home.
Funeral service will be held 11:30 am, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma, IA with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating. There will be a two hour visitation at the funeral home prior to the funeral service on Thursday. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Alta Vista, IA. Online condolences may be left at www.conwaymarkham.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
Scott Jeffrey was born September 19, 1961, the son of Joseph and Betty (Hinz) Grober in New Hampton, IA. He attended and graduated from New Hampton High School. In his younger years, Scott worked for Ray Nehl and Wright Way. Scott moved to Jasper County, IA in 1989 to begin his 20 year career with Pella Corp. During this time, he raised a small herd of cattle and eventually, passionately managed his purebred Black Angus herd. In 1979, Scott was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Hemmer. The couple welcomed their two children, Nicki and Bryce. The couple later divorced. Scott was always a servant hearted man. He was always willing to help his neighbors in any way he could. Scott was not known to be an idle man. His children recall that in addition to Scott’s main job and small farm duties, he could regularly be found helping on neighboring farms with chores, baling hay or any variety of tasks. When his time at Pella Corp. ended he made a path back to Northern Iowa and settled in Cresco. There, he met Heather and her two daughters. These three became very important to him. Scott and Heather were united in marriage on December 31, 2018. Scott worked at Cresco Foods, and spent many days working at the Cresco Livestock Market. In Cresco, Scott proudly tended his garden, turned a filing cabinet into a smoker, purchased a home and made precious memories with his family and neighbors. Scott truly knew no strangers during his time on this earth.
Scott’s legacy will be carried forward by, his mother, Betty Grober of Alta Vista, IA; his children, Nicki (Jayme) Veenstra of Pella, IA and Bryce (Katelyn) Grober of Reasnor, IA; his grandchildren, Jayden, Andrew, Mack, Madi, Quinten Veenstra and Colton Grober; his wife, Heather Grober of Cresco, IA; step-daughters Cecelia Smith of Decorah, IA, and Rosie Smith of Cresco, IA. Scott’s memory will also be carried on through his brothers; Todd (Sherry) Grober, Alta Vista, IA, Dean (Jane) Grober, Charles City, IA, Kyle (Kriselle) Grober, Alta Vista, IA and their families, his aunts, uncles and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Grober and infant sister.

The family of Al and Shirley Skoda of Cresco offer their deepest sympathy to Scott’s family. He was a good hearted man they thought the world of. He was always there to help them out and especially kind and helping Mom out after Dad’s passing. He talked so highly of his mom and brothers. He mowed the lawn and other small things and it was so hard for him to accept money for what he did. He was just that way. God bless his soul.

Even though I only knew Scott briefly, I know that I met a very fine man! May he rest In peace.
My deepest sympathy to Betty, Niki, Bryce and all the rest of Scott’s family. In difficult sad times I choose to reflect on good memories. I knew Scott when I was a kid and watched him work hard at everything he did. He did so much for his Aunt Rosie and Uncle Bernard on their farm. He’d help anyone and never ask for anything in return . I remember early years when he had a Doberman Pincher and Siamese cats. He grew Jackson and Perkins rose trees. One time I was delivering FFA fruit and the roads were slick/snowy and I slipped into the ditch by LeRoy Roethlers place. I didn’t know how I’d get it out and get the fruit delivered. Along came Scott on the road and he saw it was me and stopped. He helped get the truck out and me back on the road safely.
When my pigs won at the county fair my senior year Scott and Molly came to Congratulate me and share my joy. He made a big deal of what I accomplished. That’s a big deal in a kids life and made an impact on me!
He was always proud of Niki and Bryce. I remember carrying Bryce when Scott and Molly showed us the placed they moved to over by New Hampton. I think maybe Bryce was a year old or less then. Scott was so proud of that accomplishment of a new place. He loved the farm and agriculture. He’d always talk about Joe and Betty and how they were doing.
One year we were at the Iowa State Fair walking through the beef barn and there was Scott and Bryce with some cattle they had being exhibited. He always had a big smile and said, how the hell are ya!
In life there are good and bad times we each encounter. Choose something good from every person that impacts you and take that person’s good parts and put it back into the world.
That’s what I will do with my good memories and good deeds Scott showed me.
My prayers that Scott is at Peace .
