August 22, 1933 ~ September 7, 2014
Thelma A. Johnson, age 81, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Thelma Angeline was born on August 22, 1933 in Mount Sterling, Wisconsin, the youngest daughter of Attley and Millie Attleson. Thelma moved from Mount Sterling to rural New Hampton in 1942, graduating from New Hampton High School in 1951. One of her first jobs in New Hampton was selling popcorn at the Firemen’s Theater. On September 23, 1962 she married Roger Johnson at New Hampton’s Trinity Lutheran Church. For much of her adult life she worked in banking, at First National Bank and later with Security State Bank, retiring in 1998. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, going to the apple orchards in Wisconsin, and traveling. She was involved in women’s circle, church council, and quilting at church, and liked gardening, reading, and catching bluegills on the Mississippi River. Most of all she cherished spending time with her four grandchildren and Saturday morning coffee with her sisters. Thelma is survived by her husband, Roger of New Hampton; son, Christopher (Bonnie) Johnson of Bismarck, North Dakota; daughter, Jennifer (Robert) McCabe of South Saint Paul, Minnesota; and four grandchildren, Erik and Hallie Johnson, and Elizabeth and Katherine McCabe; and two sisters, Mavis Lang and Hazel Hereid, both of New Hampton. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Percival, Stanley, and Orland Luther.
