Thomas E. (Tom) Gansen, age 64 of New Hampton, IA died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at his home. Thomas Edward Gansen was born July 1, 1944 at Elma, the son of Elmer and Rosella (Frank) Gansen.  He was a 1962 graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma.  After graduation, he worked at Oliver Farm Equipment in Charles City.  On October 19, 1968 he was married to Dianne (Diane) Fitzgerald at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.   In 1969 Tom went to work for Woolco Dept. Store in Cedar Falls until 1971 when he became employed by Tonys Pizza in Washington, Iowa, as a route salesman.  In 1977 he and Dianne moved to New Hampton where they operated the Gambles Store until November of 1980.  He then worked for Hillendale Farms until 1984 and then was employed as a representative for Advantage Sales and Marketing until the present. Tom was a member of Holy Family Parish St.  Joseph Center.  He had held the position of New Hampton Community School Board member for nine years and served on the New Hampton Planning and Zoning Commission.  He was also a member of the Iowa Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years Dianne; two daughters, Angela Carpenter of New Hampton and Jennifer (Yiloiz) Santiago of Ankeny; two sons, Scott (Sheyanne) Gansen of Menasha, WI and Ryan (special friend Jenilee Holstein) of West Des Moines; six grandchildren Austin and Emma Carpenter, Victoria (Tori) Eschweiler, Jacynda Santiago and Gage and Pierce Gansen; one brother Norbert (Mary) Gansen of Fredericksburg and a sister- in- law Sharon Gansen of Elma. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Gansen. Tom lived for his family.  He was proud of his childrens accomplishments and his six grandchildren lit up his heart.  In his spare time Tom loved to golf, coffee with his friends and woodworking in his shop. He especially loved spending time with his loving wife. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the family Cemetery: Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery with Eddie Gansen, Doug Gansen, Jason Rasmussen, Laverne McGrane, Mike Meirick, Doug Golden and Al Morris as casketbearers.  Honorary bearers will be special friends, golf friends and his morning coffee crew. Visitation: Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 4:00 pm Rosary and a Scriptual Wake Service at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30AM on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Holy Family Parish, St. Josephs Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt and Father John Barnes as celebrants.  Dianne and Toms children will place the pall.  Dick Taylor and Donna Dietzenabch will be eucharistic ministers.  Gift bearers will be Victoria Eschweiler, Austin Carpenter, Yiloiz Santiago, Sheyanne Gansen and Jenilee Holstein.  Lector will be Pam Pickar.  Mass servers will be Brian and Garrett Minear and Tracy and Alissa Hageman.

  6. Angie, I was so sad to hear that your Dad passed away. He was a wonderful person! I always had a good laugh with him when he was in at Hy-Vee. He was my favorite salesman. He always had a smile on his face and most importantly he made people smile! His heart was genuine! I will truly miss him. I plan on coming tomorrow and hope to be able to see you.
