Timothy Costigan

timothy costigan
He never met a stranger is the phrase that comes to mind when thinking of Timothy Costigan, age 70, of Lawler, IA. It is with great sadness that we announce Tim passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. After a brave and courageous fight with COVID. A memorial mass of Christian burial is being planned for a later date to be announced. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Timothy William Costigan was born July 13, 1949 in New Hampton, IA, the son of William and Elaine (Collins) Costigan. Tim was a 1967 graduate of Turkey Valley High School. Upon completing his education, Tim worked in the restaurant business owning various Country Kitchen’s in Iowa and Florida. In 1970 he married Katherine Gallo and had two daughters, Jennifer and Rachael. The marriage ended in 1980. In 1982 Tim married Betty Eslick and they had a daughter, Caitie. Tim was a hardworking, successful, creative dentrepreneur who started a series of franchises such as the Sports Page, Solid Gold Diner and Costigan’s Bar and Grill. His kindness, humor and practical jokes left a mark on all that were fortunate enough to know him or work for him. To know Tim was to love him. He truly had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. He always enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to play cards, water volleyball, pool, treasure hunting and other games. He was fiercely competitive and did not see the meaning in playing anything if you weren’t playing to win. Not only was he an avid and loyal Vikings and Hawkeye fan who knew everything about the teams and players, but he was truly a sports enthusiast. He was a very loving father and grandfather and loved to talk about his children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish Tim’s memories are his mother, Elaine Costigan of New Hampton, IA; his daughters, Jennifer and her husband Curtis Brown and their two children, Benjamin and Samuel of Yorktown Heights, NY, Rachael and her husband Michael Bushey and their two children Jack and Grace of Paoli, PA and Caitlin Costigan and her two children Kaden and Krew of Muscatine, Iowa, his brother Terry and wife Carol Costigan of St. Lucas, IA and close friends Leanna McCullough and Monica Connor. He was preceded in death by his father, William Costigan, his sister JoEllen Madsen and ex wife and dear friend Betty Costigan.

  4. Many memories of good times with Tim when we were younger. He was definitely an upbeat guy. Watch out next world!

  5. Elaine, Terry, Carol, and daughters, I am very sorry for your loss. I have many fond -and interesting- memories of growing up in good old Lawler with Tim. He was the envy of the town when he got his brand new 1967 pea green Mustang! And who could ever forget his pigeon house/infirmary in the back yard where he nursed many winged friends back to health. Tim was a smooth talker – no one was better convincing the teachers at TVHS that he was innocent. Rest in peace my good friend. ~Vern Kuennen

  6. Elaine, Terry and Carol, I am sorry to hear that Tim has passed. It seems like yesterday that we arrived in FL. The mention of his name brings a smile to the faces of those who knew him.
