Vernon G. Schwickerath

Vernon Gerhardt Schwickerath, age 83, of Ionia, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Vernon Gerhardt Schwickerath was born on August 9, 1929 to John and Sara (Miller) Schwickerath in New Hampton, Iowa. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in North Washington. Vernon farmed with his father for 34 years. Vernon owned and operated a backhoe for several years. In later years he drove truck for Rausch Brother’s Trucking and was a school bus driver. Vernon enjoyed playing the accordion, restoring and driving his antique tractors, riding motorcycle and polka music. Vernon is survived by his children Cindy (Kevin) Martin of Ames, Iowa; Roland (Allison) Schwickerath of Charles City, Iowa; Lora (Larry) Christensen of New Hampton, Iowa; Allen (Carey) Schwickerath of Lincoln, Nebraska; Staci (Nick) Schutte of New Hampton, Iowa; Timothy (Amy) Schwickerath of Des Moines, Iowa; special friend Lavonne Havens of Ionia, Iowa; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Sara Schwickerath.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Vern's family.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating
