Alma I. Schroeder, age 93 of Elma, IA passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at her home in rural Elma. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Elma. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home with a 4:30 PM Rosary and a 7:00 PM Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral mass on Saturday. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family. Alma Ida was born April 21, 1926 to Clem and Hazel (Van Erdewyk) Koster in Breda, IA. She attended and graduated from St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Breda. After completing her education, Alma worked various jobs. On May 21, 1946, Alma was united in marriage to Ivan Schroeder at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple farmed in Wall Lake, IA. In 1949, they moved to Clarion where they farmed together until 1958 when they made their home on their present farm where they raised their 10 children. Alma was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. She enjoyed quilting, baking and together with Ivan, they enjoyed traveling the world. Alma is survived by her children, Thomas (Barbara) Schroeder of Elma, Dean (Nancy) Schroeder of Iowa Falls, IA, Loran (Betsy) Schroeder of Albert Lea, MN, Michael Schroeder of Elma, Sandra Schroeder of Elk City, OK, Ronald (Joan) Schroeder of West Union, IA, Ramona (Gary) Kazynski of Shawano, WI, David Schroeder, Diane Schroeder both of Elma and Debra Loftus of Westside, IA; 17 grandchildren; 29, great-grandchildren; her siblings, Anita Hannasch of Carroll, IA, Urban Koster of Breda, IA, Myrna Schmidt of Three Fork, MT and Alice Theilen of Carroll, IA and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Ivan Schroeder; 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
