Forence S.Mettner age 88 of New Hampton, died on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton. Florence Susan (Gebel) Mettner was born on November 22, 1920 near Alta Vista, Iowa to Christopher and Suzanne (Nosbisch) Gebel. She attended school in North Washington and graduated. Florence was employed at the telephone office in Charles City until Virgil came back from WWII. She was united in marriage to Virgil Mettner on February 11, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. They farmed near Lawler from 1952 until retiring and moving to New Hampton in 1986. Florence enjoyed playing cards, cooking for the family and spending time with her grandchildren. Florence was a member of the Harold Redman American Legion Post 279 Auxiliary of Lawler, Holy Family Parish St. Josephs Center and Red Hat Club. Florence is survived by seven children; David Mettner of Colorado Springs, CO; Linda Mettner of Muscatine, IA, Mark Mettner of Hayward, CA, Marcia Pope of Banks, OR, James (Debra) Mettner of New Hampton, IA, Gerald Mettner of Duluth, MN and Janet Theilen of Nashua, IA; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Velma TeKippe of New Hampton. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil on August 1, 2003, son Duane, one sister and 11 brothers. Cemetery: Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Cemetery at Lawler, Iowa with Chris Mettner, Dustin Mettner. Matt Theilen, Brad Theilen, Dan Theilen, and Michael Pope serving as casket bearers. Visitation: Visitation will be 4:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a rosary at 5:00PM and a scriptural wake service at 6:00PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the serviceon Thursday. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30AM on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Holy Family Parish St. Joseph Center in New Hampton, Iowa with Msgr. Carl Schmitt as celebrant. The lector will be Rich TeKippe and the gift bearers will be Janet and Jennifer Theilen. Mass servers for their grandmas service will be Tanner and Tabitha Mettner.

  4. This is her grandson and she was a very nice woman. She was never mad at me whenever i knocked stuff over at her old house. she always had cookies ready for me and my sister when we walked there from school. she will be missed deeply and ill miss grandma! ~Tanner~
