Floyd M. Roethler

Floyd M. Roethler, age 92 of Alta Vista, IA passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, IA.
Floyd Merle Roethler was born on March 21, 1924 to Elmer and Harriet (Muetz) Roethler on the family farm near Alta Vista. He attended country school and graduated from Alta Vista. Floyd worked at Rath Packing Plant and John Deere in Waterloo. He was united in marriage to Betty (Lenora) Klink on November 26, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. The couple purchased their present farm and moved to Alta Vista in 1953. Floyd farmed and was a construction foreman for Great Plains Lumber. He then formed his own construction company until he semiretired.
Floyd enjoyed playing cards, bingo, western movies and watching sports on TV. He especially enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the many lessons of life. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Elma, the Catholic Order of Foresters and served on the St. Patrick’s Cemetery board.
Floyd is survived by his children, Joe Roethler of Alta Vista and Kathy (Tim) Murphy of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Dara (Ethan) Mahlstedt of Charles City, Pat (Kim) Murphy of Ankeny, IA and Kelly Murphy of Davenport, IA; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Milly and Rohan Murphy and Kamdyn Mahlstedt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 2009; his daughter, Terri in 1979 and brother, Orville.
Family was important.
I always enjoyed visits with Floyd out at St. Cecelia then later when Floyd was at the Manor. A wonderful person. Memories of both of your parents will always remain a comfort. Thought and prayers.
