Veronica Kathryn Geerts, age 71, of New Hampton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday August 4, 2019 at Mercy-One North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM at Conway-Markham Funeral Home, New Hampton on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, with a 3:30 PM Rosary. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Thursday. Veronica (Roni) was born September 15, 1947, the daughter of Thomas and Alberta (Regenold) Short in Oelwein, IA. She married Theodore J Geerts Sr. on April 25, 1964 at Immaculate Conception in Fairbank, Iowa. They moved to New Hampton and she had a variety of cooking jobs at local restaurants including A&W, Rodger’s Famous Foods, L-Kove, and Klunders Kafe. She later worked at Sara Lee and Sparboe Foods retiring in 2015. Roni enjoyed cooking/baking, fishing, camping, gardening, motorcycling, and attending Blue Grass festivals. She had a fond appreciation for ordering items from the QVC Network. She was an avid bear collector. Roni was known for calling a spade a spade and had some good one liners even up to her last words in the hospital. Roni is survived by her husband, Ted of New Hampton, Iowa; her children Scott (Leah) Geerts of Concord, NC, Ted Jr. (Donna) Geerts of Ionia, IA, Teresa (Steve Lundtvedt) Milbrandt of Decorah, IA and Shawn (Heather) Geerts of Rochester, MN; Grandchildren Christine Milbrandt, Katelyn Willitts, Jacob Willitts, Allie Geerts, Jackson Geerts, Carver Snell, Brendan Snell, Carter Geerts, and Lexen Geerts; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sisters Patricia and Marry. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberta and Thomas Short, her sister Linda Richter, her 3 brothers Donald, Michael, and Thomas Jr.; her mother and father-in-law Louis and Katherine Geerts; her step-father Laverne Reiter; half-brother Bob Erhardt.
