Calvin “Cal” Roberson, age 75, of New Hampton, IA passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab. A private funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Peter Faugstad officiating. A public graveside service will follow at 11:45 AM at Jerico Lutheran Cemetery in Jerico. Military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Conway-Markham Funeral in New Hampton. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family. Calvin Sanford was born November 18, 1944, the son of Omar and Evelyn (Cummings) Roberson in New Hampton, IA. He was a 1963 graduate of New Hampton High School. After graduation, Cal attended NIACC prior to enlisting in the United States Army on October 11, 1966. He was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for boot camp. After basic training he went on to Fort Monroe, VA and assigned duty in the Signal Corp. After six months at Ft. Monroe, he volunteered for tour in Vietnam. Once Cal arrived overseas, he was stationed at NaTrang in June of 1967. He was in Vietnam during the famous Tet Offensive when the American Military overwhelmingly defeated the Viet Cong! Cal returned to Ft. Lewis, Washington and mustered out of the service for his country as a Specialist 4th Class in July of 1968. Cal returned to Iowa, where he enrolled at UNI to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Eventually Cal settled in his hometown of New Hampton to build his accounting business. He supported and serviced his community as a CPA for the past 45 years. Cal enjoyed life on his small farm near Jerico. His hobbies included fishing and hunting with friends and family. He is survived by his children, Kelly (Rob Whitehead) Roberson of Des Moines, IA, Josh Roberson of Madison, WI, Erica (Todd Wojchik) Roberson of Minneapolis, MN and Seth (Amanda) Roberson of Waverly, IA; his grandchildren, Theo, Sophia, Zoey, Anya, Levi and Corbin; his sisters, Barb Brummond and Sonja Galligan, both of New Hampton; his brothers, Gary (Kay) Roberson of Bettendorf, IA, Ron (Clare) Roberson of Waterloo, IA, Ken (Barb) Roberson of Oelwein, IA and Terry (Joan) Roberson of Des Moines, IA; two aunts, Marie Torkkelson of Chicago, IL, and Betty Cummings of Waterloo, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
