Alice “Marie” Jones age 82, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Sunday June 30, 2019 at MercyOne in Mason City, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton, IA with Father Brian Dellaert celebrating mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Hampton, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, IA with a Rosary at 4:30 PM and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 PM and will continue one hour prior to mass on Monday the day of the service. Alice “Marie” Showalter was born on July 19, 1936 in Elma, IA to Harold and Bernice (Riley) Showalter. Marie attended and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma in 1954. After graduation she worked at the Main Diner in New Hampton. Marie was united in marriage to Jim Hurd on September 11, 1956 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. They farmed for a time near New Hampton before moving to town in 1960 where Marie has remained. During her time in New Hampton she was a homemaker and provided in home daycare. Marie later worked for Dorfman’s Auto Supply for 15 years before retiring. On November 17, 1983 Jim passed away at the age of 52. Marie was united in marriage to Neil Jones on February 12, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Hampton. Marie enjoyed reading, gambling trips, chatting on the phone, coffee with Sandy and visit with family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers and rose bushes. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Catholic Daughters and the Rosary Society. Marie is survived by her daughters Peg (Mark) Mueterthies of Lawler, IA, Jeanne (Joe) Rieks of Iowa Falls, IA and Debbie (Rod) Gossling of Alta Vista, IA.; eight grandchildren Megan (Kelly) Miller, Michael and Matthew Mueterthies, David (Amy) Rieks, Katy (Tyson) Turnbull, Alyssa (Spencer) Cooper, James (Kristyn) Gossling and Riley (Katie) Gossling; five great-grandchildren Danika, Dryver and Dristol Rieks, Lucy Turnbull and Mollie Miller; brother Mike (Anne) Showalter of Milton, Vermont; sister-in-law Carol Showalter of Waterloo, IA and brother-in-law Bill (Joanne) Hurd of New Hampton. Marie is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Bernice Showalter; first husband James Hurd and second husband Neil Jones; son Tom Hurd; brother Jim Showalter; sisters-in-law Norma Amble and Leona Johnson; brothers-in-law Alger Amble and Cal Johnson; and infant sister Karen Ann Showalter.
