Betty L. Bergmann, age 78, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Betty Lou Bergmann was born November 21, 1933 to Ernest and Marie (Suhr) Neuendorf in Bremer County, Iowa. She graduated from Plainfield High School. After graduating, Betty worked for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company in Waverly. On November 27, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Roy Bergmann at Western Douglas Church in Plainfield. The couple farmed for 12 years in Bremer and Chickasaw counties. They moved to rural Lawler in 1963 when Betty began working for Hillandale Farms, working there for 20 years before working for Liddle’s Super Value for 15 years before retiring in New Hampton. Betty enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading and being around people. Her favorite saying was, “Strangers are friends I haven’t met yet.” Her greatest loves were her children and grandchildren. Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Betty is survived by her children, Pamela Jean (Steve Knebel) Bergmann-Knebel of Jesup, IA, Larry Joe (Elaine Mayo) Bergmann of Lawler and Eugene Robert (Ruth) Bergmann of Ventura, IA; her six grandchildren; two additional grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert and her brother, J. Milton Neuendorf. Cemetery: Burial will be at St. John’s Western Douglas Cemetery in Plainfield, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral Services for Betty will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating.

  7. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Betty’s family and friends. She was such a wonderful lady. I met her through my Grandma, Carol. I have MANY fond memories at Betty’s cabin in Fredericka (Fishing, Pontoon rides, etc.). May she Rest in Peace.

  13. So Sorry for the loss of Betty. She gave many fond memories. I remember the days when we both worked for Slender Quest/Kindred Krafters on Main Street in New Hampton and then again at the Kum N Go in New Hampton. Beautiful person with a heart of gold. Will Love and miss you always Betty, I’m thankful you touched my life.

I thought of Betty as my second Mom, She was always there for me whenever I needed her, She always had a bright smile on her face for everyone, I’m so glad she came to see 2 days b/4 I moved to Va, It was a sad & happy good-bye because she was glad I would be with my son.
