Carol Anne Hoffman, age 64, of Alta Vista, IA, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at her home in Alta Vista. Carol Anne Olson was born on July 2, 1947 to Ralph “Pal” and Eileen Olson in Sioux City, IA. She attended school in Osceola, IA. Carol was united in marriage to Richard Brand in Osceola, IA and to this union three children were born. She later met and married Carl Hoffman on December 15, 1970 in Missouri. The family moved to Alta Vista in 1978 where she has lived ever since. Carol surveyed for Northern Natural Gas pipeline for several years. Later, Carol was employed as a clerk at the Corner Station in Alta Vista. She enjoyed reading, Scrabble, Facebook, playing cards, especially spending time with family and being “Granny” to all her grandkids, related and not. Carol is survived by her three children, Barb (Jim) McAvoy of Alta Vista; Clem (Sandi) Brand of Indianola, IA and Jenny (Pat) Carroll of Russell, IA; her grandchildren, Mandi and Levi McAvoy, Justin, Jeremy and Jordan Brand and Ashleigh, James and Carlee Carroll; one great-grandson, Knyle Dotts; one sister, Jeannie (Keith) Hansen of Greeley, NE; brothers, Gary Olson of Meridian, MS, Bobby (Pam) Olson of Evening Shade, AR and Ralph Olson of Midland, TX and special sister-in-law, Joanne (Melton) Kinney of Bunker Hill, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Carl. Cemetery: Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Alta Vista. Memorials may be directed to the family. at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista.

I remember that one time when a bunch ofus went on one of our trips and i rode with her and two other ladies so i kept calling them grandma. carol would tell me to quit calling her that because she was too young to be my grandma. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. we will miss her very much

She was also an important person to my boys, growing up as well as she always supported them in whatever they were doing.     We are very sorry to hear of the loss of your mom and “granny”. She was a great lady with a heart of gold. Such a rallier of people for community events, “granny” to so many of our children, couselor, mother, friend, the list goes on and on. I am a better person for having her in my life. She will be truly missed.
