Clarence D. Lipa, age 83 of Elma, IA passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Hospice North Iowa in Mason City. Clarence DeVere Lipa was born on September 23, 1930 to Frank and Beatrice (Polansky) Lipa on the Lipa family farm in rural Elma, Iowa. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes School. After receiving his education, Clarence began his farming career with his father on the Lipa family farm. On April 12, 1958, Clarence was united in marriage to Phyllis Chandler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. To this union two children were born, Dean and Donna. The couple continued to farm until Clarence’s retirement in 1988. He was proud of his Herford herd and his well-trained bulls which he named, Jake. Clarence enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Clarence is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Lipa of Elma; his children, Dean (Sheila) Lipa and Donna (Robert) Frenz, both of Elma; his grandchildren, Krystina, Brianna, Christofer, Scott, Darren, Daniel and Gerald; his great-grandchildren, Dakota and Benton; his sisters, Agnes (Ed) Novak of Elma, Anna Mae (Ray) Marvetz of Riceville and Cecelia (Ray) Praska of Cresco and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Beatrice and his sister, Mary (Vince) Hosek.
