Darlene "Dolly" Bird, age 80 of Elma, IA passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Colonial Manor in Elma. Funeral services for Dolly will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with Pastor Daird Korth officiating. Burial will be at Howard Cemetery in Elma. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma and will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Online condolences for Dolly’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Elma Public Library or Howard County Hospice. Darlene Marie was born on May 13, 1936 to Edward and Zerilda (Vick) Hinz in Elma, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista, IA. Dolly was educated in and around the Elma, after graduation she moved to Waterloo, IA where she worked for Bishop’s cafeteria for ten years as a bookkeeper. In 1962, Dolly was united in marriage to Wayne Bird in Alta Vista. They raised their family in Moline, IL moving to Casper, WY in 1980. She then worked at True Oil as an accountant until retirement in 1998. Dolly moved back to Elma where she worked at Klobassa Grocery and D&J Quick Stop. Her favorite things to do were crafts, gardening, canning, bowling and playing cards. Darlene is survived by her children, Kimberly Benham and Linda Spaulding, both of Casper, WY and David (Kris) Bird of Irvine, CA; five grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Stark of Casper, Christopher Wrasper of Las Vegas, NV, Alicia (Mike) Smith of Walnut Creek, CA, Kelsey and Zachery Bird of Irvine; her sisters, Betty (Joe) Grober of Alta Vista, and Marilyn (Dick) Wright of Orchard, IA; her brother, Merle (Carmen) Hinz of Waterloo, IA; brother-in-law, Ronald Teager of Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Lila (Jack) Simons, Laverne (Violet) Hinz, Donald (Vera) Hinz, Beverly Jean Teager and a special niece, Karen Hinz Link.
