David D. Troyna, age 82 of New Hampton, IA passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Linn Haven Rehabilitation and Healthcare in New Hampton. David Dwayne Troyna was born on February 22, 1933 to Edward and Naomi (Williams) Troyna in Shellsburg, IA. When David was a child his family moved to New Hampton where they began farming. He attended the New Hampton Schools. After completing his education, David began his 19 year career at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. While living in Waterloo, he started a bait shop selling live bait and fishing supplies. David was united in marriage to Lavonne May Hahn on December 12, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In the 1960’s, the couple returned to New Hampton and it was in 1968 that David returned to farming with his wife, Lavonne by his side until their retirement in 1996. After retirement they moved to Alpha to be closer to the trout streams since they both loved trout fishing. However, in 2004 the couple returned to their farm in New Hampton. David grew up with the love of hunting, fishing and playing cards which he in turn passed on to his children. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. David is survived by his children; Rick (Cindy) Troyna of Raymond, IA, Kathy (Riley) Uglum of New Hampton, Peggy Troyna of Tripoli, Donna (Marcia Hutchinson) Troyna of Redwood City, Ca, Dan (Barb) Troyna of Allison, IA, Dennis (Marj) Troyna of New Hampton, Barb (Dana) Boomgarden of Anoka, MN and Karen (Tim) Rogers of La Mars, IA; his siblings, Rosemary (Denis) Schwickerath of Alta Vista, Gene Troyna of Walker, MN, Jerry (Joann) Troyna of Mariposa, CA, Pat (Harry) Gilbert of New Hampton, Glenn (Jane) Troyna of New Hampton, Nancy (Rich) Gerber of Ionia, Judy (Tom) Tierney of New Hampton and Mike (Shirley) Troyna of New Hampton; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lavonne in 2010 and his brother, Donovan Troyna and one granddaughter, Kelly Foster.

To the family, you have our sympathy in the passing of Dave….I waited on him many years at the FSA office and always enjoyed our visits….always felt like talking to an old neighbor since he was from the neighborhood of my grandparents, Nick and Dora….he has had his struggles with health but is at peace now and “home” with the Angels….enjoy the memories…
