Delores V. Nehl, age 89 of Alta Vista, IA passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Colonial Manor in Elma, IA with her family by her side. Delores Nehl was born on January 14, 1926, on the home farm near North Washington, IA, to the daughter of Bernard and Martha (Ries) Rohe. She attended North Washington School through eighth grade. On November 27, 1946, Delores was united in marriage to the love of her life Reynold Nehl at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, IA. The couple made their home near Alta Vista. On April 28, 1952 they adopted a son Charles Michael Nehl. In 1973 Delores and Ray moved their family into Alta Vista where they owned and operated the Del Ray Inn for three and a half years. From 1976 to 1983 she helped her husband with his carpentry business. Where she stayed busy preparing meals for the crew making sure they were well fed each day. In 1983 they bought the local lumber yard and named it Rays Lumber Yard. Delores was the bookkeeper along with many other duties she took care of. She was also an avid flower maker, making artificial arrangements for weddings and other occasions. Delores was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She enjoyed crocheting, making flowers, cooking for her family, playing cards, traveling, dancing and spending time with her friends and family. Left to honor her memory is her husband of 68 years Reynold Nehl; daughter-in-law Vickie Nehl of Alta Vista; Four Grandchildren Michael (Emily) Nehl of Alta Vista, Tom Nehl of Alta Vista, Christy (Adam) Roethler of Alta Vista and Lynn (Tyler Edmiston) Nehl of Keokuk, IA; four great grandchildren Jayda Nehl, Layne Nehl, Cody Nehl and Titus Roethler; her sister Margie Fitzgerald of Waterloo, IA; brothers-in-law Kenny (Delores) Nehl, Bill (Mary) Nehl, and Joe (Larraine) Nehl; sisters-in-law Joanne (Wilfred) Walz, Florence (Donald) Boss, Virginia Nehl and Sharon Nehl; several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Charles “Chuck” Nehl; three sisters Mary Flaherty, Annie Fitzgerald and Jean Fitzgerald; brothers-in-law Louie Flaherty, Leo Fitzgerald, Gerald Fitzgerald, Bill Fitzgerald, Wally Nehl, Lawrence Nehl, Bob Nehl and Ed Nehl; sister-in-law Lois Nehl
