Donald E. Miller, age 79, of Alta Vista, IA, died on Monday, July 5, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, IA surrounded by his family.
Donald Edward Miller was born on April 18, 1931 to Julius Jake and Mamie (Schlesing) Miller near Alta Vista. He attended Wildwood Country School near Alta Vista and graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1949. Don continued to help on the family farm after graduation. On August 21, 1955 he was united in marriage to Doris Mae Gealow at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Rockwell, IA. After their marriage they moved to the home farm which they later purchased. Don spent many years milking cows, working for Sinnwell Elevator and helping Reuben Friedrich and Don Bartles with farm work. Don enjoyed fishing, dancing, and visiting with family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris of Alta Vista, IA; six children, Vickie Nehl of Alta Vista, IA, Kathy (Donald) Lechtenberg of Lawler, IA, Richard (Alice) Miller of New Hampton, IA, Wayne (LuAnn Clubb)Miller of Sigourney, IA, Janine (Keith) Bennett of Wildomar, CA, and Ronda (John) Kuehn of New Hampton, IA; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louis (Lois) Miller of Denver, IA, and Kenny (Norma) Miller of Waterloo, IA; three brothers-in-law, Elmer (Clysta) Gealow of Marshaltown, IA, Roger (Beverly) Gealow of Story City, IA, and Don (Patty) Gealow of Mason City, IA; three sisters-in-law, Velma Brannon of Greene, IA, Judy (Ed) Kohler of Buena Vista, CO, and Diane (Greg) Riles of Sheffield, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Jake and Mamie; one son-in-law, Charles Nehl; two brothers-in-law, Jim Hill, and Emmett Brannon; and one sister-in-law Melva Hill.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Alta Vista with Michael Nehl, Jamie Lechtenberg, Tommy Nehl, Brad Lechtenberg, Jason Lechtenberg, Mitch Miller, Chris Lechtenberg, and Nick Lechtenberg serving as casket bearers. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Christy Roethler, Ashley Bennett, Samantha Bennett, Shelby Bennett, Coleman Bennett, Shawn Kuehn, Taylor Kuehn, Kyle Kuehn, Lynn Nehl, Jessica Marzen, Toni Miller, Stacey Miller, and Johnathan Miller.
Visitation:
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 4:00-8:00pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Service:
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 9, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista with Reverend Kevin Frey officiating.
