Duane Lee Douglas Sr., of rural Cresco, IA passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home with his family gathered around him. Duane Lee Douglas, Sr was born 17 September 1947 in New Hampton, IA to Bernard and Gwendolyn Douglas (Kahn). He was a 1965 graduate of Nashua High School. After graduation Duane enlisted in the Marine Corps and served until Sept 1969 as a UH-34D and CH-46 Helicopter crew chief. During that time he served 27 months in Vietnam with HMM 164. While in Vietnam, he received the Purple Heart, Air Medal with 5 stars, Combat Air Crew wings with 3 stars and Good Conduct Medal. On 20 September 1969, he married the love of his life, Brenda Kay Wade of Richlands, NC. From 1970 to 1986, Duane and his family farmed in Chickasaw and Howard counties. He was employed at TriMark in New Hampton for 31 years, retiring in 2009. Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with his family. Duane is survived by his loving wife, Brenda of 43 years. Also, survived by his six children; Duane (Michelle) Douglas of Oklahoma City, OK, Michael Douglas of Novi, MI, Steven (Smia) Douglas of Arlington, VA, Belinda Ehrig of Cresco, IA, Sarah (Joel) Cox of Evansdale, IA and Adam (Jess) Douglas of Waterloo, IA, and 13 grandchildren; Desiree, Devin, Crystal, Dylan, Chance, Destiny, Kayla, Natalie, Grace, Jordan, Warren, Jade, Kaitlyn, and one on the way. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Helen Nosbisch of Waterloo, IA, Gloria Parks of New Hampton IA, Louis (Karen) Douglas of Waterloo, IA, Reuben (Carla) Douglas of Denver, IA, Norma (Tim) Shea of Dodge City, KS, Nancy (Tim) Bathke of Tripoli, IA, and Angela (Chuck) Diesburg of Ionia, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Gwen Douglas, two brothers, Bernard and Dennis Douglas and three brother-in-laws, Bill Nosbisch, Donald Parks, Gary Piper. Cemetery: Burial will be at Saude Lutheran Cemetery in Saude. Military rites will be provided by the Alta Vista VFW Post # 4069. May be directed to Duane's family. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm, on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Funeral Services for Duane will be held at 11:00am, on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saude with Pastor Dan Larson officiating.

Job expressed his faith that God would bring him back to life if he should fall asleep in death as he said: All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait, until my relief comes. You will call, and I myself shall answer you.” The scriptures indicate that it is possible to be reunite with your loved one in the near future, right here on earth under peaceful, righteous conditions. Psalms 37:10, 11 offers us this promise. Our sincere condolences to your entire family.
