Erma O. Johnson

Erma Oriette Johnson, age 80 of Fredericksburg, IA died Monday, November 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, IA. Erma Oriette Johnson was born December 2, 1930, on the family farm north of New Hampton, the daughter of Clarence and Cora (Sanderson) Haugen. She received her education in New Hampton and was a graduate of the New Hampton High School Class of 1948. On November 11, 1951, at Crane Creek Lutheran Church, rural Lawler, she married Spencer Johnson. To this union two children were born. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, IA. Erma loved children and served many families in the Fredericksburg area with their child care needs. Many of those children and families became a part of her and Spencer’s extended family. Erma is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Spencer of Fredericksburg; one son, Larry (Gail) of Butte des Morts, WI; one daughter, Janet (Calvin) Steege of Fredericksburg; one brother, Donald (Betty) Haugen of Waterloo, IA; four grandchildren, Alissa Johnson of Oakland, CA, Ryan (Jamie) Steege of Fredericksburg, Andra Johnson of Richmond, VA, Alex Steege of Cedar Falls, IA; one great-granddaughter, Erin Steege and many very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Doris Haugen; one brother, Clarence Haugen Jr. and many loving relatives and friends with whom she is now reunited.
Cemetery:
Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, IA. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, IA with Pastor Ronnie Koch officiating.
