Online condolences for the family may be given at www.northernpeace.com Gene grew up in New Hampton and helped out on his parent’s farm. He met his future wife Marlys Johnson in New Hampton. Marlys’ parents owned a resort in Walker at the time, so they moved to Walker on May 29, 1961 and were united in marriage at St. Agnes Catholic church in Walker on June 22, 1961. From that marriage Steven, DeAnna and Heidi were born. Gene would help out on the resort as a guide and take care of projects as needed. In 1963 he started in the construction business in the Walker area. Marlys and Gene divorced in 1975. He later met Karen Pence in 1978 and from this union, Josh and Leigh were born. In between the time of Gene working construction and his retirement in 2003, he started the Walker Bait Company and enjoyed keeping that going right up to his passing. As most know, Gene was a very independent man who had his own ideas to share with his family and friends. He was a perfectionist who you could count on being honest and up front. Gene was an avid trapper, fisherman, and hunter. He loved snowmobile racing, spending time with his grandchildren, driving around the area and was very passionate with his bait shop. He would always share stories with everyone he knew and will be missed by all his family, friends and the entire fishing community. The family that Gene joins again are his parents; Edward and Naomi, brothers; Dave and Donnie, and one grandson; Gabrial Kvasnicka. Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his sons; Steven (Cindi) Troyna of Remer, Josh (Amanda) Troyna of Underwood, ND, daughters; DeAnna (Kory) Nelson of Walker, Heidi (Ken) Renowski of Perham, Leigh (Tyler) Donarski of Walker, brothers; Jerry (JoAnn) Troyna of Yosemite, CA, Glenn (Jane) Troyna of New Hampton, IA, and Michael (Shirley) Troyna of New Hampton, IA, sisters; Rosemary (Dennis) Schwickerath of Alta Vista, IA, Patricia (Harry) Gilbert, Nancy (Richard) Gerber and Judy (Tom) Tierney all of New Hampton, IA, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
