Hazel L. Drewelow, age 95, of New Hampton, IA died Friday, March 25, 2011 at New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton. Hazel Luverne Drewelow was born on May 24, 1915 to William and Jennie (Dunn) Smith in Hartley, Iowa. As a young child she moved with her family to New Hampton, where she graduated from New Hampton High School in 1933. Hazel then attended one year of Teachers Normal School. She taught country school for four years. On January 1, 1936, Hazel was united in marriage to Everett C. Drewelow at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Boyd, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Boyd area until they retired and moved into New Hampton in 1980, where Hazel resided until present. Hazel enjoyed fishing, cooking, spending time at the Mississippi River, reading, television, sports and time spent with her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Hazel is survived by her children, Sharon (Jim) Ferkin in New Hampton, Gary (Joan) Drewelow of New Hampton, and Lee Drewelow of Independence, IA; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Everett C. Drewelow on March 18, 2004; one brother, Wayne Smith; three sisters, Irene Snyder, Edna Sandven and Evelyn McClain and one grandson, Gary Lee Ferkin. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the family. Cemetery: Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at New Hampton. Visitation: Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton, and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Service: Funeral services for Hazel will be at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating.
