Isabell Brookins, age 92 of New Hampton, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her home in New Hampton. Isabell Pearl Emma Drewelow Brookins was born November 22, 1919 to Herman O. and Elizabeth Linneman Drewelow near Boyd, IA, Chickasaw County. She attended school, kindergarten through 8th grade in a rural school. Isabell was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Boyd. She worked in various homes as a housekeeper. On April 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert Emmett Brookins. To this union eight children were born. Through the years Isabell worked side-by-side with her husband with the farm operation, and years later in farm tile drainage, until she suffered multiple heart attacks and underwent open heart surgery on her 53rd birthday. Isabell thanked God for her most useful and needed birthday present. As a mother of eight, she saw to getting her children to Sunday school and church. She prepared for them to go to camp through Sunday school and also to Rural Bible Crusade Camp in Story City. Isabell accepted the Lord and was baptized by emersion on April 18, 1954 becoming a member of First Baptist Church in Cresco, IA and in July of 1995 a member of First Baptist Church of New Hampton. She helped out during Bible School at times. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Henry Pinch Unit # 104 in Cuba City, WI and helped in the kitchen at the Senior Citizen Centers in Cuba City, WI, Searcy, AR and New Hampton. Isabell had always raised a large garden and canned much of the food for winter to feed her family, until 1979 when the heat became too much for her. When trouble or problems occurred, she headed for her garden where she worked and talked with the Lord. She found great joy, comfort and strength there among God’s creations. Isabell is survived by her children, Valerie (Ed) Pettit of Corallville, IA, Arthur (Doris) Brookins of Chatfield, MN, Roger (Elaine) Brookins of Cresco, IA, Judy Brookins of Plattville, WI, JoAnn (Special Friend, Ron) Brookins of Ionia, IA, Joseph (Georgie) Brookins of Ellendale, MN, Alberta “Birdie” (John) Linneman of Mt. Hope, WI and Bonnie Brookins of Washington, IA; 37 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Francis Drewelow of New Hampton; one sister, Ruth Weeks of Mission, TX a several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her brothers, Oliver, Lyle and Robert; Her sisters, Leanor Schuchhardt, Bernice Ochala, Gladys Natvig, Eileen Bernard and Rose Marie Stevenson. Cemetery: Burial will be in New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco, IA following the funeral luncheon on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Funeral services for Isabell will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Corey Brookins officiating.
