Jason Taylor was born April 10, 1973, the son of Max and Janice (Stannard) Dietz in Fort Riley, KS. As a young child, Jason was welcomed by his grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth (Taylor) Dietz in Wadena, IA. He attended and graduated from Valley of Elgin High School in the class of 1991. While he was in high school, Jason enjoyed summers at Luther College taking part in the Upward Bound program. It was here that chance brought Jason and Angel Kuker together. Though the couple spent several years apart they were reunited by friends and were united in marriage on October 17, 1998 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, IA. The couple made their home in Cresco, IA then to Elma, IA where they welcomed their four children, Zachery, Mackenzie, Stephen, and Abigail through adoption. The family moved to Lime Springs, IA in 2005. Jason was a devoted father who was incredibly active with his children, especially Boy Scouts. He was a pack leader, District Commissioner, camp director and taught Wood Badge. In 2012, Jason returned to school and earned his Associates of Applied Science degree and was certified as an industrial and residential electrician. He worked for Jim Roll Electric in Osage, IA. Jason and Angel eventually returned to Elma to the family home and were excited to begin their next adventure together as empty nesters. Outside of working Jason enjoyed handyman projects and found joy renovating projects with Angel, and woodworking. Though he knew the importance of a strong work ethic, Jason enjoyed playing just as hard and made sure his friends and family were enjoying their time. He also enjoyed watching birds. His daughter Abby lovingly nicknamed him the “Crazy Bird Man.” Jason was a proud blood donor, often donating double reds when called to do so. He was willing to jump in and help anyone at the drop of a hat, including pushing a young college girl’s car out of a busy intersection to protect her from being injured while risking his own safety.
Jason’s tender heart and quick wit will be deeply missed by his wife, Angel Dietz of Elma; his children, Zachery (Starr) Dietz of Lewiston, ID, Mackenzie Dietz of Manly, IA, Stephen Dietz of Cresco, IA and Abigail Dietz of Elma; his grandchildren, Zella and Zophia; his two sisters, Desiree Kowalske and April Veaver; his parents, Max Dietz and Janice (Randy) Veaver; his mothers-in-law, Patsy (Duane) Eichenberger of Fredericksburg, IA and Deb Kuker of Monticello, IA; brother-in-law, Mike (Stacy) Kuker of Clarksville, IA and several nieces, nephews, extended family and godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and father-in-law, Dennis Kuker.
Condolences to Jason’s family.
