Jeffrey Oliver Gunderson, age 58, of Cedar Rapids, IA formerly of rural New Hampton, IA passed away on November 10, 2021 at St. Luke’s Transitional Care in Cedar Rapids, IA.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Sue Cira officiating. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton. Jeffrey Oliver was born April 27, 1963 in Rochester, MN, the son of Oliver and Carole Ann (Welch) Gunderson. As a young child, Jeffrey’s family moved to rural New Hampton where he attended and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1981. While in high school, Jeffrey was a nine year member of the Williamstown Junior Farmers and served as President of the Fredericksburg FFA Chapter and was a member of the high school band. After graduating, Jeffrey attended Luther College for his degree in English and graduated in 1985. He then transitioned from writing to software development and ultimately senior system engineering working for Collins Aerospace for 16 years.
Jeffrey had a passion for reading, music, movies and gaming.
Those left to honor Jeffrey’s memory are his father and stepmother, Oliver and Leigh Gunderson of Elma, IA; a stepsister, Rachel Boyle (Heather) of Houston, TX; several aunts, uncles and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carole Ann Gunderson and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

Very sorry for your loss. Jeff lived two doors down from me at Luther and we ate together often. He was a kind soul and tried uselessly to get me into Dungeons and Dragons. I remember him as a “big boy” that came in handy in intermural football and such. I wish I had got to see him again.
