Joyce Marie was born June 14, 1937, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Conzemius) Gebel in North Washington. She attended grade school in North Washington and graduated from New Hampton High School in May of 1955. Joyce was united in marriage to Richard Schilling on October 10th that very same year at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple made their home in rural New Hampton and welcomed their five children, Bob, Bill, Brian, Brenda, and Barb. Joyce worked as a legal secretary early on in her career. She enjoyed caring for her children until returning to work in 1972 as a book keeper for Chickasaw Feed Service and retired from Rausch Bros. Trucking in 2010. Her favorite pastime was decorating cakes for many weddings, anniversaries, and special events. Her hobbies included gardening, camping, playing cards and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events.
Those left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her children; Bob (Elmarie) Schilling of Waterloo, Bill Schilling of Ionia, IA, Brian (Patrice) Schilling of New Hampton, Brenda (Tony) Ponto of Waverly, IA, and Barb (Tom) Devaney of Anamosa, IA; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Charlie (June) Gebel of New Hampton; brother-in-law, Roger (Karen) Schilling of Cumming, GA and sister-in-law, Marilyn Meissen of Ankeny, IA and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
