Kathleen Ann was born August 11, 1937, the daughter of Norman and Olivia (Krogman) Roberson in Cedar Rapids, IA.  As a small child the Roberson family returned to the Jerico area where Kathleen attended and graduated from New Hampton High School.  On June 5, 1956, shortly after graduation, Kathleen married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Ptacek.  The couple settled on a farm near Schley, IA where they welcomed five children, Dale, Mark, Sharon, Andrew, and Dave.  As her children left the home, Kathleen grew her cake decorating business and eventually went to work at Jack and Jill in Cresco, IA for nearly 25 years.  She also sang with Raymond in a Polka Band.  They began playing at Polka masses and eventually grew to playing at other venues.  Kathleen lost Raymond after 37 years of marriage when he passed away on April 18, 1993.  She later met Ronald Anderson and the couple was united in marriage on March 23, 1996.  They would make their home on Ronald’s farm in rural Lawler until they moved to New Hampton.  Ronald passed away on January 19, 2014.  After his passing Kathleen remained close with his children.  In 2018, Kathleen moved to Eyota to be closer to her daughter, Sharon as her own health declined.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.  Kathleen enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning and generalized crafting. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Dale (Debbie) Ptacek of Dakota, MN, Mark (Louann) Ptacek of Protivin, IA, Sharon (RIck) Krahn of Eyota, MN, Andrew (Lauren) Ptacek of Vancouver, WA, Dave (Barbara) Ptacek of Cedar Rapids, IA; her grandchildren, Kelly, Jason, Adam, Darci, Dana, Erica, Travis, Ben, Tony, Alexis and Isaac; 14 great grandchildren; her step children, grandchildren and great  grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Teresa Dumsky of Sugar Creek, MO and several nieces and nephews.

  1. Our sympathy to the families. We were neighbors to Kathy and Ron after their marriage and had many enjoyable visits back and forth across the road. Bob and Karen Palmersheim

  3. We send our sympathy to the Anderson Family.
Ronald’s daughter Nancy(Joe) Alden were our neighbors. Nancy was Ronald and Kathy’s best man(women) at their wedding
Nancy and Kathy would also correspond by writing letters.
I will remember Kathy by her pleasant smile and laugh.

  4. I remember my cousin as always smiling. We lived far away but made visits during the summers, even staying with the family…city children on a farm. I have always been in awe of all her creative accomplishments..mother, baker, crafts and musical. Wow. Thinking of you all at this time. God bless.

  5. So sorry for your loss. She is in a better place.
She and John’s family very close growing up.
Always enjoyed our time together when we came back to visit from Colorado. We moved back to IA in 1992, visited her at NH care facility. We are now back in Colorado near our son & family. I just had surgery for breast cancer. Taking chemo now. Doing ok so far.
Our address: 500 Apex Dr #214, Windsor, Co 80550. Would love to hear from you.

  9. My deepest and sincerest sympathy to the Ptacek Family.
Kathy taught me so much as my 4-H leader for years. Between Kathy and my mom I learned all the skills that I needed in this world. From baking to cooking to sewing to crafting.
All these memories came pouring back when I heard of her passing. Sooooo many times filled with laughter…God bless you all. Heaven has a new angel.
My love and sympathy to you all…Lynelle 💕

  10. Light a CandleMy deepest sympathy to all of Kathy’s family. She was a wonderful friend and co-worker with me. She never stopped to amaze me with her cake-decorating skills. Her hard work ethic and love of her children and grandchildren were amazing. Loved that lady so much. Sorry am out of town and will be unable to attend the services.

  11. Our sympathy to all the Ptacek and Anderson families. I always enjoyed our visits when I used to do Kathys hair. Family meant everything to her.
