Larry Elenz, age 64, of Vinton, IA, formerly of New Hampton, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home in Vinton. Lawrence Leo Elenz was born on February 13, 1948 to Lawrence and Marie (Papenheim) Elenz in New Hampton, IA. He attended school in New Hampton and later, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge in 1969. Larry traveled around the U.S. working at various jobs. He lived in Lincoln, NE and then moved to Waterloo and finally to Vinton. Larry is survived by his sisters, Theresa Stremcha of New Hampton, Rita Cummings of Waterloo, Rose Meirick of Jesup, Maggie Faber of Algona, Tillie Havlik of Elma, Katie Schmit of New Hampton and Alice Kintzle of Waterloo; his brother, Mike Elenz of Reno, NV; sister-in-law, Marilyn Elenz of New Hampton; his aunt, Henrietta Elenz of New Hampton; his uncle, Eugene Papenheim of Waterloo and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo and John and his sisters, Mary Ann Webb and Barb Bormann. Memorials may be directed to the family. A private family graveside service will be held, with burial in New Hampton Cemetery at New Hampton. Military rites will be provided by New Hampton American Legion Post #38 and New Hampton VFW Post # 5238.
