Leslie O. Miller, age 94 of New Hampton, IA passed away at his home on Monday, November 17, 2014. Leslie Otto Miller was born on November 27, 1919 to Ernest and Rena (Knief) Miller in Sumner, IA. He and his family farmed North of Sumner while Leslie attended country school and Sumner High School. On June 11, 1942, Leslie enlisted into the US Army and served his country during World War II on the beaches of Normandy. He received his honorable discharge on December 4, 1945. Leslie was united in marriage to Ruth Hayes Way on April 23, 1953. The couple then made their home in New Hampton where they farmed until retirement in 1982. Leslie enjoyed playing cards, trout fishing, going to farm sales and gardening. Leslie was a member of the New Hampton VFW Post # 5238 and recently the Alta Vista VFW Post # 4069. Leslie is survived by his wife, Ruth Miller of New Hampton; his stepson, Ronald (Debbee) Way of Dunkerton, IA; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Dan) White of Madrid, IA and Clark (Renee) Way of Urbandale, IA; one great-grandson, Marshall; his siblings, Vera Winter of Waucoma, IA and Leo Miller of Orlando, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Rena Miller; his brothers, Elmer, Cletus and Ray Miller and one sister, Larinda Meyer.
