Leslie R. Drewelow, age 60, of Lawler, IA, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 16, 2018 in New Hampton, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery at Boyd, IA. Military rites will be provided by the New Hampton American Legion Fae Stine Post # 38. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, IA and will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. Leslie Ray Drewelow was born on November 9, 1957 to Lyle and Dorothy (Champion) Drewelow in New Hampton, IA. He grew up and spent most of his life in Boyd. Les attended school in New Hampton and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1976. He joined the Army Reserves and retired in 1996 after 20 years of service. Les was employed at Plum Builders in New Hampton where he worked for over 30 years. He worked for New Hampton Parks and Rec and then most recently worked at the Chickasaw Event Center. Les enjoyed bowling, Jaycees and being with family and friends. He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye sports and Vikings football. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jaycees, and bowling league. Les is survived by his brother James Drewelow of Lawler, IA; six nieces and nephews Teresa (Shelby) Stapleton of Alta Vista, IA, Dan (Christine) Venem of New Hampton, IA, John (Alicia) Venem of Ionia, IA, Tia (Edwin) Lazo of Angier, NC, Tony (Jennifer) Drewelow of Waverly, IA and Tanya (Donald) Perkins of Cresco, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Drewelow of New Hampton, IA; 13 great nieces and nephews; and one great great nephew. Les is preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Dorothy Drewelow and brother Bernie in 2014.

  3. I had the privileged to work with Les while I was involved in the Iowa Jaycees. He was always willing to assist and give the extra effort needed to get something accomplished. He was a good man and I was fortunate to be able to work with him.

  5. Les was so good about helping the Meals on Wheels drivers. He was always very patient with us. We will miss him. Our sympathy to his family.

  8. To Les’s family: My thoughts and prayers to all of you. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. When we had our 500 mixer cards at the CEC he always had the coffee made and the tables and chairs set up for us and ready to go!! We will miss him. God speed!!
