Lloyd Oltrogge, age 79, of New Hampton, IA, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the New Hampton Care Center. Lloyd Lyle Oltrogge was born June 13, 1932 to Clarence H and Elfrieda (Buhr) Oltrogge at Tripoli, Iowa. He was baptized at home July 3, 1932 by Rev Dilges from St Johns Lutheran church, Tripoli, Iowa. Lloyd was confirmed April 14, 1946 at St Johns Lutheran Church by Pastor M O Jahr. His Bible verses were Psalms 145:18, 19. Lloyd graduated from Tripoli High School in 1951. He attended Wartburg College for two years. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956, spending most of his time at the Chemical Corps in Alabama. In 1956 he attended Iowa State College and graduated in 1958 with an Ag Business degree. October 5, 1958 he married Geraldine Lohmann at St. Johns Lutheran, Tripoli, Iowa. Following graduation at Iowa State Lloyd was employed as a grain merchandiser in Des Moines for 8 years. In 1966 he started working for Pioneer Hi Bred in Des Moines. In 1968 they moved to New Hampton when Lloyd became a District Sales Manager for Pioneer in Northeast Iowa. Lloyd retired January 1, 1995. After retiring Lloyd did volunteer work for NE IA Hospice and also the volunteer desk at Mercy Medical. He was on the board for the Chickasaw Event Center when it was being built. He was an active member at Trinity Lutheran and served on the church council and committees. Lloyd and Geri were interested in the international community and hosted two foreign exchange students: Jörg Wenzel from Germany and Kaoru Urano from Japan. They have visited both Jörg’s and Kaoru’s homes and also traveled in many foreign countries and across the US. Lloyd had a number of hobbies, including scroll sawing to make wooden ornaments and wall decorations, collecting and wearing cuff links, trout fishing and annual walleye fishing trips to Canada, traveling to many music and polka band events with friends, and singing with the church choir and Gospel Choir groups. He also had an interest in how things work and gadgets, having made a few of them himself. He treasured his relationships with his Pioneer salesmen, his coffee friends and Bingo at McDonalds and dearly loved his church, his family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Geri; daughter Kymberly Oltrogge and husband James Dodrill of Dripping Springs, Texas; son Daniel Oltrogge and wife Marcia of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Grandchildren: Alaina and Stephen Oltrogge both of Colorado and Annika Dodrill of Texas. Brothers: Eugene (Alice) Oltrogge of Dallas, Texas; M Wayne Oltrogge of Clear Lake, Ia. Sisters: Marjorie (Dalton) Kowalsky of LaPorte, Iowa and Burdene (Don) Atalig of Garner, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton.
A fitting way to remember Lloyd would be a contribution to Trinity Lutheran Church’s sound system fund (cordless microphones), Cedar Valley Hospice or a charity of your choice.
at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
at Trinity Lutheran Church at 223 S Water Street in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Military honors provided by New HAmpton VFW Post #5238 and American Legion Post # 38.

Geri, Kim, Dan and familes. Our hearts are sadden by Lloyds departure from his earthly home, but filled with joy as well knowing that he is home with his heavely father. Bet he is singing in the heavely choirs already! God Bless

You all have our deepest sympathy and are in our prayers. Bob and I so enjoyed sitting with Lloyd at Wed. morning bingo at McDonald’s. We will always remember his kindness, interesting stories and humor. We was a very special person. God be with all of you.
Dear Geri, Kym, and Dan – I am very sad, that you lost your husband, and your father. In my thoughts I am with you, and I do feel with you! I am very glad, that I had the chance to meet Lloyd while Jorg and me visited you last year. Lloyd and me have only spent a short time talking together, but I will keep this as a memory in my heart forever.

Nick and I are saddened by Lloyd’s passing – but greatful he is at peace, with no pain, and resting in eternal heaven now. I just know he’s singing with all of the other angels too! What a beautiful choir that must be.

Geri and family, my deepest sympathies. I really enjoyed your visit to Spokane Washington and the visit with Lauretta and me. Geri and family, Our deepest sypmathies go out to you. Lloyd was a good man with a very kind heart. We will remember the days of him selling Pioneer seed to us, his unusual sense of humor, enjoyed having him for a meal or two, and the words of wisdom shared around our table. Being a volunteer at Mercy with Lloyd, I saw how he continued in his retirement yrs., to care for others. His genuine kindhearted spirit was an example to many. May he rest in peace.

Geri, Kym, Dan and families, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. I have memories of Lloyd and the whole Oltrogge family going back as far as I can remember! I think I last saw Lloyd on my local news where he so graciously and diplomatically assessed Texans abilities to drive in snow! It was great! I will never forget it or him.

Dear Geri & Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Lloyd was an exceptional hospital volunteer & at the same time a courageous cancer survivor. We could always depend on Lloyd to do his job well and to let us know if there was anything we could do to improve our services ~ a truly valuable resource! He will be missed by all who knew him and by all who admired his special sense of humor. I am grateful for the blessing of his friendship – his travel tips and adventurous stories, as well as his woodworking masterpieces will be wonderful reminders of a special friend & volunteer.

GERI: LAST TIME I VISITED WITH YOU AND LLOYD WAS ON YOU 50TH ANNIVERSARY.I AND LLOYD GO WAY BACK TO ARMY DAYS IN 1954. WE WERE BOTH IN ALABAMA IN THE CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL WAR FARE SCHOOL. LLOYD, I AND JIM TAYLOR BECAME FRIENDS. MY SYMPATHY TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
